Popular Pool Filters

Three pool filter types stand out from the rest. The first is sand pool filters which are not only the most popular but the oldest in the industry. They have a mechanism that traps sand, and they require regular backwashing to churn the trapped sand as well as flush trapped dirt.
They are very durable and may go up to 7 years without needing replacement. Better still, they are low maintenance, and their working mechanism is easy to understand. They, however, have sand trapping size limit of 20-40 microns, and therefore they may be unable to trap dust and very fine dirt.

Cartridge filters have a finer trapping power as they can trap particles as small as 10 microns. They operate by screening out the sand particles as they enter the cartridge element. When they get clogged with dirt, they are not back-washed but rinsed with water out of the tank. They are however not as durable as sand pool filters and will need replacement in 2 to 5 years.

The Diatomaceous earth filters, popularly known as D.E, are the most efficient of the three as they possess the ability to trap particles as small as 3 microns and are considered to be the best in professional corridors. They utilize an organic porous powder which possesses microscopic pores that can trap very miniature particles. Backwashing is employed here to remove accumulated dirt and is recommended it be done every six months. These filters are very durable, with a lifespan of between 7 and 10 years. On the downside, they are very expensive.
